2023 Harley-Davidson® Street Glide® Overview

The Street Glide® is an iconic bagger and often a standard by which other models in the class are measured, and if you’re interested in owning your own, you’ll be thrilled to learn that the 2023 Harley-Davidson® Street Glide® is now available at Harley-Davidson® of Rochester. Another new bike that’s available in our area—and one that’s often compared to the Street Glide®—is the 2023 Indian Chieftain. We believe this to be one of the great rivalries in the industry, and are happy to add our thoughts about the 2023 Harley-Davidson® Street Glide® vs 2023 Indian Chieftain to the mix.

Performance

This is perhaps the aspect of any 2023 Harley-Davidson® Street Glide® vs 2023 Indian Chieftain comparison that gets the most attention. These are both large baggers powered by air-cooled V-twins. On paper, the 2023 Indian Chieftain comes out a smidge ahead. In practice, the power difference is negligible. The Grand American Touring platform is more refined than its Indian counterpart. That results in better ride comfort over longer distances, and we like the hand-adjustable shock on the Street Glide®.

Technologies

The 2023 Harley-Davidson® Street Glide® and 2023 Indian Chieftain are both modern tourers with an advanced slate of technologies. That includes modern infotainment touch screens, but Harley-Davidson® distinguishes itself with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Smartphone connections with the Indian are more generic. With the Street Glide®, Harley-Davidson® of Rochester also gives you the option of advanced rider-assistance technologies. In fairness, that option does increase the MSRP beyond the Indian, but if you want that upgrade, there really isn’t anything comparable on the other side of the aisle.

Design & Customization

There are a lot of similarities between the design of these bikes. Indian has even drawn inspiration from Harley-Davidson®’s iconic batwing fairing. One way that H-D® distinguishes itself is an engine guard. If you want that with the Indian, you’ll have to purchase and install it separately. Another way is the color options. The Chieftain is available exclusively in Black Metallic. Harley-Davidson® offers Vivid Black but also Redline Red and Atlas Silver Metallic. The Street Glide® also has a more classic aesthetic overall opting for a chrome finish. The Chieftain has a blacked-out aesthetic, which Harley-Davidson® does offer, such as with the Street Glide® Special and Street Glide® ST.

The Street Glide® also wins when it comes to customization. There are many times the accessories in the H-D® catalog than in the Indian catalog. Harley-Davidson® also does something that Indian really doesn’t, which is continue to add new options to the catalog each season. If you opt for the 2023 Street Glide®, then when 2024 comes around, you’re going plenty of new products to consider that fit your bike perfectly.
